About Squids
Squids met and started to play together in Boston in 2003. Kristin came from the motor city where she played bass in Red or Dead and Surrounded by Snakes. She brought to Boston the sounds of in-between places, visions of flying creatures, a voice that calls out in laughter or indignation, and strings that ring and pulse. Helen came from overseas with stops on the west coast, in her bag she brought recordings of her bands Petty Crime and Modessa. In Squids she sings of hot apartments and eternal questions, crafting rhythms that punch and notes that pierce. Sonia came from the D.C. area by way of the midwest, played with meltdown and circle of def, and kept the heartbeat of the kickdrum alive all the way. Off center, anxious, strong but spare, her drums form a backbone for the guitars to gather around and break off again.
