About Spitfire Charlie
Spitfire Charlie are a 4-piece indie/rock band based in Leeds. The band consists of singer John Roberts, guitarist John Rennie, bassist Ben Kreczak and drummer Chris Hide, who all met in 2002 at Leeds Metropolitan University whilst studying Creative Music and Sound Technology. The band “draw on an array of contemporary influences but fortunately the results are an impressive mainstream pastiche that manages to retain authenticity in a fiercely competitive indie/rock market”. In the last 12 months, the band have been gigging and recording vigorously, and have supported the likes of The Pigeon Detectives and The Others, had their white label single “No Need to Fight” played on Radio 1 by Steve Lamacq, and were one of the 30 bands given the opportunity to play at Leeds Festival by playing in the Futuresound competition. The band have gained a reputation for being a truly energetic and exciting band to watch live, combining choppy and intricate guitars and drums with “the born to sing gravely tones of singer John Roberts”, who “makes most of his contemporaries seem rather weedy in comparison”. In 2007, the band hope to continue where they left off in 2006, with plans to record an album in their own studios in the next couple of months, as well as organising a short tour of the UK.
