About Sopha

SOPHA is an 11-strong collective from Antwerp combining funk, jazz and hip hop, creamed with a zest of afrobeat every now and then. Their main influences are bands such as Young Blood Brassband, The Roots, James Brown, Herbie Hancock and Fela Kuti. Together with producer Stoffel Verlackt (El tattoo del Tigre, Sukilove, Flowers for Breakfast) they produced their debut album "Before We go Bald" in 2009. It featured guest musicians like Gregory Frateur (Dez Mona), Tobe Wouters (Think of One), Simon Lenski (D.A.A.U.), Amel Garcia Serra (Zita Swoon), Arne Leurentop (The Glen, And they spoke in Anthems, Sir Yes Sir). It was released on the Ponkie Records label and distributed by LC Music in February 2010. Their first single Christian Body got airplay on Belgian Radio's Radio 1 and FM Brussel.
