About Sons of Sam

Sons of Sam was an underground hip hop duo from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, active during the early-to-mid 1990s. Containing members The Xav (Raphael Xavier Williams) and PA-Kid (Omar Renard Gale.) Their style is often compared to the jazzy, laid-back aesthetic of A Tribe Called Quest, but with a more rugged, "dusty" Philly underground edge and deep-voiced lyrical delivery. Albums, singles, and EP's info: "Oooh He Got An Afro / Charisma" Single (1993): This was their only official 12-inch vinyl release during the 90s, put out via Workshop Records. It remains a high-value item for vinyl collectors. "The Unbirth" EP (2009): A limited archival release that surfaced years after they stopped recording. "Ya Oughta Know" (Unreleased 90s album) (2023): Released by the label 90's Tapes, this is the definitive collection of their work. It compiles 12 tracks recorded between 1993 and 1994 and a bonus track from 1996 at Up N Up Studios in New Jersey, essentially serving as the "lost" debut album that never saw the light of day in the 90s.
