In their home country, they never rose above the pub circuit. But in Spain, Somewhere Over England topped the charts and played in front of 180,000 people. Advertisement Three years after taking Spain by storm, the band split up. Now, to mark the 20th anniversary of their biggest hit, the Bath band is getting back together again. If I Ever Fall In Love was a huge club hit in Spain which stayed at the top of the country's singles chart for several weeks in 1991, leading the band to appearances on music shows and at festivals. At the height of their fame, the band played in front of 180,000 people at a festival in Valencia and could not walk down a Spanish street without being approached for autographs. In 1994, the band broke up but guitarist David Baldock, who now runs Bath's Jane Austen Centre, continued to make regular visits to Spain with other musicians. It was on one such visit last year, with Bath blues group The Bourbons, that the idea of a reunion was considered. Somewhere Over England singer Chris Donovan, who was in the audience at a gig in Valencia, was called up on stage to sing If I Ever Fall in Love . David said: "To our amazement the whole audience, young and old, began singing along and pretty much knew every word." He added: "Our original Spanish manager was also in the audience and suggested we reunite for the 20th anniversary this year. He told us that the song was regularly played on Spanish radio and had attracted a new generation of fans."
