The habit of performing entire songs onstage with his eyes closed may have earned him the nickname Sleepy, but onstage Eddie James anything but. Unforgettable live performances have earned him a well-deserved reputation as a must see up and coming guitarist. With emotional bends and vibratos, combined with lightening speed fretwork, Sleepy Eddie James creates a unique powerful sound that blends musical styles from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ronnie Earl, Albert King, John Lee Hooker, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds, combined with real life, often humorous lyrics in the vein of Little Charlie and the Nightcats and the Reverend Horton Heat. A long road of 20+ years has seen Sleepy Eddie James play guitar almost all over the world. It all began in the bars and clubs up and down the west coast of California. Long-time guitarist for one of southern California's top blues group the Boogiemen, since then Sleepy Eddie has played over 1000 gigs and open air shows in the US and Europea and recorded 4 CD's along the way. Sleepy Eddie James has shared the bill or stage with renown blues artists like Robert Cray (USA), Kenny Neal (USA), Joe Louis Walker (USA), Charlie Musselwhite (USA), Philip Fankhauser (CH), Travis Haddix (USA). He has also performed with several rising stars on the international blues circuit like Vivian Vance Kelly (USA), Sir Oliver Malley (A), and Walt and the Blue Step (CH). The CD "Frisky from the Whisky" was released in 2001 to critical acclaim and airplay all over the world. Assisting on several of the original tracks was California sax legend Jonny Viau (who has worked with national blues acts like Kid Ramos, Candye Kane and the Swinging Armadillos, and Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers) and harmonica whiz Riche “Blue” Evans. In 2004, a live CD was recorded entitled “Live at the Oxx”, which shows the raw acoustic/electric side to Sleepy Eddie's performances. Finally, in 2005, another live CD with a mix of classic blues and original songs called “Session Sounds” was put together involving the former members Sugar Cane Train (CH). The year 2006 saw continued gigs in Europe and South Africa as well as the completion of a new CD called "Living like a King". Performances by Chris Massey, early drummer for Texas blues-rock sensation Chris Duarte, Russian bass phenom, "Molotov" Mike Alexander, plays rock solid blues in addition to slap/funk style. Rounding out the performers is Swiss keyboardist Dr. Daniel Suter, who lays down an extra touch to every song that's like a layer of soft and sweet icing.
