About Sleeping Body
Sleeping Body were a hardcore/emo band from Fort Worth, TX, active from 1991 to 1992. They were one of the pioneers of the "screamo" sound, besides bands like Honeywell, Reach Out, and Groove. They were Miguel Veliz, Scott Cooper, Sean Capone and Elizabeth Hufford. Actually Sleeping Body were Carl Hollowell (drums, vocals), Jeff Hunt (bass), Jeff Leeper (guitar), Chad Percy (before he became Cadillac Fraf, vocals) and Justin Wood (guitar, vocals). The original author of the SB bio listed the names of the four people who contributed artwork to the original Sleeping Body 7" on Vermin Scum records. Because the members of the band think it is a funny bit of confusion, it remains. Chad Percy died January 10th, 2009 after being in a coma suffered on September 25th, 2008 in a scooter accident. You can read more here in his obit and here in the journal posted by his family. Maximum RocknRoll wouldn't review their record, because it wasn't "punk". However, there was a Sleeping Body interview in Maximum RocknRoll circa 1992. Releases: a 3-song demo cassette, a 7" entitled "Awaken" on Vermin Scum Records (VS #015) in 1993, the song "Bleeding Heart Shit" on a compilation 7" flexi entitled "4 Bands I Like" and a live performance on WFMU that is a rare cassette recording. There are also two unreleased songs from the "Awaken" sessions that may see the light of day. Incredible musical unity here that has more off-beat counts and chopped up guitar parts than most bands could ever handle, let alone attempt. Very impressive and moving hardcore that has all this and an ability to set up a decent groove in-between cutting everything up and throwing it in your face.
