STARTERS American rock band from Chicago, IL formed in 1997 by singer/songwriter/guitarist Eric Kmiec (ex: Gila Bend), bassist Dave Lally (ex: Anna North, Smug, Screeching Weasel - when he was known as Dave Naked) and drummer Tommy Shimenetto. In January 1998 the band went into DLM studios with producer/engineer Dylan Moller and assistant engineer Jim Spurney to record the 2 song 7 inch Everything's not fine which was released in February of 1998 by Liberty Park Recordings. Dave Lally would leave the band in the spring of 1998. Soon after, Kmiec's former Gila Bend band mate Fred Popolo would join on bass and Paul Velat (ex:Herbal flesh tea) on guitar and vocals. The band would begin playing shows in and around Chicago and the Midwest. THIS YEARS . . . The band recorded the full length compact disc This years version of these chords on August 15th and 16th of 1998 at Attica studios in Chicago, IL with engineer Chuck Uchida (No Empathy). The cd would achieve some critical acclaim and would crack the top 100 of the CMJ charts in 1999. They continued to play shows until they broke up in the Summer of 1999. POST . . .SIX . . . After Six of one half summers Tommy Shimenetto would go on to play drums for The Firebird Band and Bull in China as well as on and off stints as drummer of The Eric Kmiec Quartet. He would also become a very successful painter. Fred Popolo would go on to form and play bass in the band Haymarket Riot. He would also do on and off stints as the bassist for The Eric Kmiec Quartet and Deminer. Paul Velat would go on to front Paul from Lombard and the latch key kids as well as do on and off stints as guitarist for The Eric Kmiec Quartet and would eventually evolve into the entertainer Lord of the YUM YUM. In 2003 he would become the permanent drummer for The Eric Kmiec Quartet. Eric Kmiec would go on to form The Eric Kmiec Quartet as well as become the multi instrumentalist and chief technical consultant for the bands The Ass Clown and The Loyal Order of the Ass. In November of 2006 he became one of two guitarists for the band Strawberry Horsecake.
