About Simon Van Gend

Simon van Gend is a guitarist and singer-songwriter from Cape Town, South Africa. In 2001, he released his first album, Unhinged, independently - a collection of 16 original songs performed on acoustic guitar with backing from Ben Amato on electric guitar, pennywhistle and flute, and Eric Michot on bass. His introspective lyrics and melancholic melodies found favour amongst a small but growing fanbase in Cape Town. In 2005 he released a second indpendent album, Pocketsongs, this time with Ross Campbell (-ex Benguela) on drums and again with Eric Michot on bass. Pocketsongs attracted the attention of the Johannesburg label 2Feet Music, which signed the Simon van Gend Band. A third, as yet untitled album is in production.
