About Sigríður Níelsdóttir

Sigríður Níelsdóttir (1930-2011) was a Danish-Icelandic lady, who made lo-fi music all her life, from back before the term 'lo-fi' was ever coined. Finally, in 2001 the world caught up with her and she began recording prolifically. Her music incorporated children's songs, psalms, folk... choruses constructed from a sample of a pack of dogs barking... household implements, you name it. She recorded directly onto a cassette player at home. Although she never performed live due to shyness some other Icelandic musicians formed a group specifically to play her music.
