About Shortwave Dahlia

A trio hailing from Memphis, Tennessee who meld pop sensibility with sampling and electronics. Think The Cure sharing a taxicab with The Chemical Brothers...or maybe a volatile mixture of Cocteau Twins and New Order... ...or maybe none of these. Jack Alberson (voice, synths, programs, and occasional guitar) founded the group as a solo venture in 2004. With the addition of bassist Mark Simmonds shortly after the release of SD's first full-length (Illuminated), the music evolved and began to accommodate influences as broad as film music, trip-hop and jazz. Guitarist and programmer Ethan Grim joined in the fall of 2006 and a strong undercurrent of ethereal rock asserted itself in the mixture. With the release of the 2007EP, a cd designed to pull together a couple of the better early tracks with new and undeniably strong compositions, Shortwave Dahlia established itself as a complicated and ambitious trio.
