About Shimmerplanet
Shimmerplanet returns after a decade's hiatus with a holiday song, "I Wonder As I Wander". Paired with Erik Satie's stunning "Gymnopédie #3", the classic American carol "I Wonder As I Wander" features the ethereal vocals of Carolyn Traore. The Satie portion of the recording is sung by soprano Jeanne Fornari. You may have heard Shimmerplanet's John Thomas Fischer singing the theme song to VH-1's "My Coolest Years." You may also have heard 60's pop icon Lesley Gore singing Fischer's song "Cool Web" on her 2005 comeback album. In 2006, Shimmerplanet released twelve new songs by the critically acclaimed Fischer and his cohorts. Titled "For The One Who Kills Tomorrow", the highly emotional disc is inspired by the extravagance and musicianship of Björk and Rufus Wainwright, and showcased Fischer's dark, confessional lyrics as well as his classical training. Continuing her collaboration with Fischer, the immortal Lesley Gore (legendary artist of "It's My Party" and "You Don't Own Me") appeared as a guest vocalist on one of the tracks, "Siren". Gore was one of three singers (including Fischer) heard on "For The One...." Versatile international vocalist Carolyn Traore returned in her role as Shimmerplanet's Yin, singing lead on many of the songs. Traore can be heard on recent recordings by the Grammy-Award winning roots reggae band Steel Pulse. Shimmerplanet's 2002 debut, "Welcome To Shimmerplanet", was hailed as "one of the most original and enjoyable releases in recent memory" (Gregg Shapiro, Windy City Times) and "a roller coaster ride of talent, depth and emotion from start to finish" (Brandon Charles, Vibe-Rate), and compared to everything from Radiohead's "Kid A" to classic 60's soul. The Songwriters' Hall of Fame bestowed special recognition on the single "No Safe" from "Welcome". Both Shimmerplanet albums were mastered by Grammy-winning producer Phil Nicolo. The string and horn arrangements were written by Fischer, who also writes for film and theatrical productions. Singer/songwriter Mike Errico contributed several unconventional guitar tracks to For the One, adding e-bow and lap-steel guitars to the sound palette. Fischer co-wrote and starred in an off-Broadway play entitled "Til Divorce Do Us Part". The New York Times praised Fischer as "gently appealing" in his role. Fischer has also collaborated with Chris Stein of Blondie (on the off-Broadway play, "Sexotheque") and has contributed music to numerous films, including "Up to the Roof" by Norman Mailer's son, John Buffalo Mailer.
