About Seel Fresh
Born and raised on the Southwest side of Chicago, Seel Fresh was claimed at a young age by the street elements of Hip Hop. At the age of 10 he sparked an interest in graffiti art, after riding the Lake-Dan Ryan Train downtown with his aunt. Instantly, the curiosity began to build after viewing the urban art outside the CTA windows. Seel was also becoming very interested in rap music coincidentally. He was an avid fanatic to a 24-hour all rap radio station (the now defunct WJPC rap radio 950 AM) which frequently played the sounds of KRS-ONE (bdp), A Tribe Called Quest and Redman, as well as up and coming local artists like, Common (sense). A year later, he began meeting writers and set about pursuing his passion for graffiti art at age 11. He started sneaking out of his bedroom window frequently to venture out on late night excursions where he would write his name repeatedly on anything and everything visible from chicaso’s cta train lines. In time, he became well known in the graff community as Seel. Little did he know that his artistic talent would ensue an interest that would carry thru to this day. Seel soon found himself down a road that would satisfy his thirst for recognition through Hip Hop with graffiti as his vessel. As his graffiti career developed, he began attending parties where he would encounter prominent members of Chicago’s underground hip hop community. While socializing he began free styling with peers during one of these event and realized he could obtain the same recognition from rhyming as he did from graffiti. Free styling with peers during these gatherings was strictly for fun at 14. Composing and songwriting at the age of 15, he quickly commenced interacting in several lyrical ciphers and battles. He also began forming small underground shows in Chicago. In 1997 he became more involved in the music scene. While performing around town he met Dug Infinite, who was working with No ID and Common at the time, as well as the Molemen, Juice and Rhymefest. These influential talents would inspire Seel’s creative ambition to keep moving toward his musical objective. It was then, that he released a 4cd series of cd-r recordings. He recorded them in the bedroom of various apartments in which he lived. Among the releases were Abnormal Psychology, Sophomore Slump, Third Strike and 4th+10th. His 4cd-series in conjunction with a handful of 12-inch vinyl releases helped Seel reach some national and international media acclaim. His recorded work mixed with his energetic stage presence and sharp lyrics, have carried him throughout countless shows as well as regional and Midwestern touring. Seel’s polished delivery and battle skills have created opportunity for this industrious young artist to entertain audiences by the masses and perform with countless artists ranging from Atmosphere, Living Legends and Typical Cats to highly acclaimed 50cent and Snoop Dogg, among other well-known influentials. Chicago native Seel Fresh has come a long way from originating as a graffiti writer in the early 90s to evolving into an enterprising young emcee. This Hip Hop protégé’s lyricism is as diverse and charismatic as his originating city. As an underground artist from Chicago on the brink of international recognition, with Chicago pushing him forward, this talented lyricist/producer/graffiti writer has no choice but to flourish and prosper. His well-anticipated first official full-length release, Trife Life, is sure to give him the proper and well-deserved exposure. Image hosting by Photobucket
