About Sam Newcomer
Sam Newcomer is a singer-songwriter originally from Indianapolis, IN, and currently based out of Nashville, TN. Having spent his teenage years clumsily writing songs, and having spent his college years unearthing and defining his faith in Jesus Christ, he has happily married the two worlds and emerged with a new perspective on the beauty and significance of God-glorifying music. His latest album, aptly titled WORSHIP, is his reaction - worship songs about worship. Narrowing in on the whats, whens, hows, and whys of worship, Newcomer's lyrics are poetic and unabashedly biblical, and his delivery is unique and approachable. With its varied instrumentation and experimental flair, WORSHIP treats listeners to 12 original psalms, community, lament, and thanksgiving psalms, all without sacrificing the truth and magnitude of the gospel. It is a teaching album, but more importantly, it is a praise album. Recently, Newcomer has felt God calling him back to a vocation previously abandoned - leading worship in the church. You can find him singing and playing guitar with friends in their on-campus ministry at Belmont University and occasionally leading worship at The Axis Church in Nashville, hoping to instill within himself others that a worshipful heart is essential and worship can still be creative. "I'm amazed at where God has taken me. That's why I still truly feel like a newcomer. I read the same verses, I sing the same songs, I've even been re-inspired by old passions; and it still feels exciting and new to me." Here's to Sam Newcomer being a newcomer for the rest of his life.
