About Sakura & The Quests
Sakura Teng (櫻花, a.k.a. Ying Hua) was one of the more popular female Mandarin song singers from the 1960s era. Her stage name is a literal translation of her Chinese name, Ying Hua, (meaning cherry blossom in Mandarin)! Apparently she was given the nickname when she started singing Japanese numbers in Chinese during her stage performances. She sang in a variety of languages, from Mandarin to Bahasa Malaysia, English and even Japanese. Many of her recordings were accompanied by The Quests. Sakura was a household name in RTS' Chinese Variety Show in the evenings. A 1967 Radio Weekly article called Sakura a "pint-sized extrovert and live-wire". Her debut EP, featuring the tracks: "Like I Do", "My Bonnie", "Sad Movie" and "Listen People", sold over 25,000 copies when it was released in 1966.
