About Sadjoy

"As I see it, Sadjoy isn't depressing. It's hard to describe--you just have to experience it. Sad that the world is so fucked and life and death is so painful; joy that the heart can be transformed and obscurations can be cleared away. That's sadjoy. Don't be too sad!" -Michael Schneeweis. Sadjoy is the current project of Brattleboro, Vermont native Michael Schneeweis. Known for his time as Michael Jordan Touchdown Pass, then Michael Schneeweis Touchdown Pass, and finally the Sad Joys, Michael's music has evolved nearly as much as he has. Starting off drumming for his brother Patrick's band at 11, he lists Patrick's and his other Brattleboro friends' bands as major influences. However, his biggest influence is probably his evangelical Buddhist ideology. At 18 he went on his first Buddhist meditation retreat, and soon after went to college where he minored in Buddhist philosophy. He then lived at a Buddhist meditation center for a few years before earning a Master's in Divinity while working as a hospital chaplain.
