Who is Süleyman YARDIM He was born in Van in 1971.He completed his primary,secondary and high school education in Konya. He passed the Music Education Department exams of Konya Selcuk university, Faculty of Education with a great success that he started his music education receiving a scholarship in 1989. During his education, he studied Turkish Classical Music, Classical Western Music and Turkish Folk Music.He intensified his education on Turkish Classical Music and he started to play the nay in those years.He took part in several concerts at university when he was a student. As his interest in wind instruments grew bigger, he started to play the other wind instruments, so he became more proffessional in both Western and Turkish music. He can play the shepherd’s pipe( a kind of Turkish folk instrument), rhythm instruments, flute and some types of wind instruments that belong to eastern countries. After completing his education in four years, right after 1993, he started to play with the Konya Turkish Sufi Music Group of Ministry of Culture and Tourism as a guest player.In those years he performed as a nay player in all of the concerts held by the group. He took part in many concerts. He has been invited to the Annual Mevlâna Ceremonies that are performed every year between 10-17 December as a nay player. He has performed in many concerts both in Konya and in other cities. In 1995 he passed the exam held by Selçuk University and he was appointed to the Music Department of State Conservatory as a lecturer.He both lectured at university and went on his stage performances with the Sufi Music Group at the same time. In the conservatory, beside the nay lessons, he lectured in theoretical classes such as Rhythm Performance, Group Performance, Chorus and Art Philosophy. At Selçuk University, he constituted various chorus and groups where he performed as a player and conductor. He has performed both in university concerts and in private concerts. In addition to his concerts in Turkey, he has been invited to many concerts abroad. He has participated in numberless conferences, talk shows, TV and radio programmes about the nay and Turkish music in the countries he has been to. A one-month-series of concerts having been invited by Baku State Conservatory and Azerbaijan Painters Federation in April and May,2004… During this period he held some conferences and Nay Recitals in many universities and faculties in Azerbaijan. He attended live TV programmes on some Azerbaijan State channels and private broadcasting institutions. He took part in the radio and television archive of Azerbaijan State Television. He has been invited to various festivals and music activities in Turkey. After playing the Nay in the opening concert of “ Turkish Classical Music Activities” organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Governorship of Konya on April 27-29, 1998 , he prepared the Conservatory Chorus and performed as a conductor within the activity. He took part in the Nay Festival organized in Istanbul in 2003. In the following years, he worked as the President of Music Department of the Conservatory, during when he also performed as a conductor in many concerts. He worked on theatre and film musics. He composed and played the theme musics of the plays titled “Vuslat” that was put on the stage by Bursa State Theatre, “Can Ateşinde Kanatlar” and “Bağdat Hatun” by Konya State Theatre. In addition, he took part in “Bürokratlar” , “Yedekçi” and “Tepegöz” by Konya State Theatre as a musician. Süleyman YARDIM has made three instrumental CD and cassette albums named “Ney Taksimleri” (Nay Improvisations) , “Sırr-ı Nay” ( the Secret of Nay ) and “Nar-ı Nay” ( the Fire of Nay ). He was also the music director of a video album called “Şeb-i Arus Mevlâna” in DVD-VCD form. These works have been used as introduction music of some films and TV programmes both in Turkey and abroad. In August 2005, he gave up his job at Selçuk University State Conservatory, and he was appointed as an “Artist” to the Konya Turkish Sufi Music Group of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. He has still been working as a Nay Player with the group mentioned above. THE AWARDS HE HAS BEEN GIVEN He he has given several Commendation Certificates by the Presidency of Selçuk University and some other schools and faculties of the University. Commendation Certificates given by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for his attendance and success in the concerts. He was given an award called “Buhurizâde Mustafa Itri” in 1998, in Turkish Music Activities organized for the 75th anniversary of the foundation of Turkish Republic. Commendation Certificate given in the concert organized for the 59th death anniversary of Atatürk. Certificates of Honour and Commendation given for his attendance and music activities in congresses and conferences in Turkey. Commendation Certificate given for his attendance in the Music Festival in Amien, France. Commendation Certificate given for the Whirling Dervishes Ceremonies and Nay Recitals performed in Germany. Commendation Certificate given for his attendance in the concerts in Bosnia and Macedonia. Certificate of Honour and Commendation given by Azerbaijan Baku State Television. Commendation Certificates given by Azerbaijan Painters Federation and Baku State Conservatory. Certificate of Honour and Commendation given by Baku Ghazi Association.
