About Routakehä

Line-up: Aapo Grönlund (vocals, bass) Antti Maantiehinno (guitar, growls) Mikael Ruoho (drums) Roope Raittinen (guitar) The story of Routakehä (transl. Circle of Frost) began in autumn 2007 in the small city of Laitila in Western Finland. Bored with the difficulties of their main band, Mikael and Timo decided to start a project band. At first they decided that this band would always be just a side project with only two members, nothing more. As time went by, more songs and ideas were born and ambition and belief towards this project started to grow. Despite of what they had decided at the beginnnig, bit by bit the guys started to think what if this project would become a real functional band. In spring 2008 Joel Tervonen joined the band to play the bass. Soon after Antti Maantiehinno joined the band to play the second guitar. During the summer of 2008 everyone's mainbands died away, and suddenly Routakehä became everyone's priority. At first the band's style was something between rock and metal, but eventually the rock influences started to drop out, giving space to melodic death metal and thrash metal influences. During the fall the guys rehearsed studiously, made some recordings at their rehearsals lair, and started to get ready for the recordings of their debut demo. At the same time Routakehä also got a sponsorship deal from a local construction company. In the beginning of the year 2009 Routakehä played its first gigs and started to gain reputation as an energetic, entertaining and aggressive live-act. Altogether the band played 14 gigs during the year of 2009. The band booked a studio for a weekend in May and started to rehearse heavily for the recordings. Just before the recordings the band parted ways with their bassist Joel due to his lack of time and motivation. Antti decided to record also the bass tracks for the demo. It was very clear that at least for now the guys didn't want a permanent bassist for the band, so Aapo Grönlund became Routakehä's live bassist. In May the Routakehä trio walked into the Noisecamp Musamuusa Studios in Turku, Finland to record their debut demo Ihmisyyden illuusiot(Illusions of Humanity in English). The cd consists of three songs of melodic and thrashy metal influenced by In Flames, Bullet For My Valentine and Mokoma. Both the songs and the booklet of the cd are made with great consideration, and a lot of time and work were spent to make the package as good as possible. Ihmisyyden illuusiot was released in the end of October 2009. At the moment Routakehä's main priorites are to play as much gigs as possible and to promote the band. The band is not currently searching for a record deal but the band's goal is to keep making good quality, self-published cd's. All the members of the band are extremely motivated: the band rehearses four to six times a week and all their freetime and money goes for the band. For Timo, Antti and Mikael Routakehä is their whole life.
