About Right on Dynamite
Daniel Murphy (guitar/vocals), Nicholas Cirillo (bass guitar, vocals), and Jonathan Molina (drums, percussion) have been friends and bandmates since high school, playing together in a couple of other outfits before finally taking control of their own destiny as the mighty RoD. They’ve been making a righteous racket ever since, busting out exceptionally addictive guitarpop fuelled by scrappy energy, sly wit, and a seemingly endless supply of hip-shakin’, hand-clappin’ hooks. Right on Dynamite rocked 2008 with its first single, “Won’t Let It Go” b/w “Wrong, Too Right,” also released on Brooklyn’s own Standpipe Records. Recorded at the world famous DFA Studios, the seven-inch was produced by LCD Soundsystem’s Matt Thornley and mixed by Roger Greenawalt (Ben Kweller, Aberfeldy, the Pierces). The single’s release prompted Spin to wax effusive, praising the trio as “a welcome reprieve from brooding and over-serious rock.” RoD were later named as Spin’s “Artist of the Day,” noting the “the heart on Murphy's sleeve is always more important than the sleeve itself – the band gets by more on raw emotion than style and flair, while also bringing the fun for all ages.” A loose-limbed, amped-up live act, Right on Dynamite has spent much of its existence playing in venues across NYC, including an acclaimed three-gig residency at Piano’s in early 2008. In addition to dates at such venerable venues as the Mercury Lounge and Knitting Factory, the band has supported the likes of The Cribs and Morning 40 Federation, while also making its debut SXSW appearance at the ’08 installment of the annual Austin extravaganza. High praise for RoD has also come from such publications as Time Out New York, which hailed the band’s gleeful tuneage as “fun, up-tempo stuff – sort of like the Strokes, minus the stern posturing. You’re going to want to check them out before they blow up like those other fellas did.” “They just sound better than the other semi-indie bands out there,” noted New York Press, while L Magazine enthused, “A promising rough-edged, sweet-centered local act…who distill everything good about every band that's ever practiced in a suburban basement that has a couch, rug, TV, and cement floor.” The reverberations have even been heard across the Atlantic, with NME pronouncing the band to be both “effortlessly brilliant” and “flipping marvelous.” Right on Dynamite recently spent a solid year as a top 10 favorite on NME’s “Breaking Bands” site. Tracks from the band’s 2006 debut demo have logged countless streams on the band’s own MySpace page, as well as via a number of prominent music blogs. In addition, songs have received radio airplay from coast-to-coast, including numerous spins at two hugely influential stations, LA’s KROQ and NJ’s WFMU.
