About Ria Bartok

Marie-Louise Pleiss (28.1.1943 - 2.3.1970), known by her stage name Ria Bartok was a singer of French Yé-yé. She was the daughter of an opera singer, she had her first success at the age of 20 with Parcel que j'ai revu François (Because I saw Francis). She was a part of the 1960's Yé-yé wave which swept most of Southern Europe. Unfortunately she was overshadowed by other Yé-yé singers of the 60's such as Johnny Hallyday, Sylvie Vartan, and Richard Anthony. Nevertheless, Ria saw good success with the song "Et quelque chose me dit". She performed her last concert on the 13th of May 1967. She died tragically in a fire in the year 1970, at the young age of 27.
