About Raulin de Vaux

Raulin de Vaux is a shadowy name on the edge of the fifteenth-century chanson repertory, known securely through a single surviving attribution: the three-voice rondeau Savez pourquoi suis si gay. The piece is preserved in the celebrated Bodleian manuscript Oxford 213 (GB-Ob MS. Canon. Misc. 213)—indexed by DIAMM at fol. 121v and listed in modern inventories as item 282—and it’s from this manuscript witness that Raulin de Vaux’s musical “presence” is most concretely traced today.
