About RUKEN

Ruken Yılmaz, born in 1990 in Istanbul, is a Kurdish singer and music teacher. She comes from a Kurdish family originally from Dih, Siirt, in Northern Kurdistan, who later moved to Istanbul. She started playing guitar and performing in her school band at the age of 12. In 2008, Ruken joined the Music Teaching Department at Marmara University, and during this time, where she began performing music within the framework of MKM (Mesopotamia Cultural Center). She collaborated with various bands and music projects before releasing her first solo album, Zelî, in 2016 under the direction of Genco Arı. After that, she released several singles. In 2017, Ruken joined the music group Koma Asiyan. Her second solo album, Sê Çiya, was released in 2022, produced by Nurhak Kılagöz. A graduate of Istanbul University’s music education program, Yılmaz continues to blend traditional Kurdish music with contemporary influences.
