About The Quick and the Dead
Rather than waiting for the unchurched, the homeless, the working poor, or those seeking God to come to them, The Quick and the Dead go out to their doorsteps. They take the Gospel of Jesus Christ, through song, to homeless shelters, hot lunch programs, food pantries, and sometimes just literally out on the street! In addition to singing of the Good News and brightening people's spirits with music, the band also tries to take donations of food, personal items, Bibles, or any other needs, fulfilling Jesus' command, "whatever you do for the least of these brothers of mine, you do for me. (Matt. 25:40)" Although The Quick and the Dead makes up a pretty eclectic group, ranging in age from 41 to 70, single and married - among them a brain tumor survivor, a formerly homeless person, a healthcare executive, a couple of IT geeks, a nurse - the ministry to the homeless brings them all together for a common cause, and knits them into a family of sorts. They have branched out and become locally and regionally well-known enough to be playing at indie music festivals, churches, and other events. However, their first love is reaching out to the homeless and impoverished. The upbeat music that calls to mind the music of Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, Tim Hughes, Brooke Fraser, with a dash of barbershop-esque harmony thrown in here and there, can bring a little bit of hope and joy to places where that is missing from normal day-to-day existence. There's another band by the same name, a post-hardcore band, that last from 2003 to 2007.
