About Pygmy Taxi Corp
The Pygmy Taxi Corporation started in '87, or '88, when 2 lads from Charm City realized their simultaneous obsession with electronic sounds and music. Pillaging the entire record collection of the Enoch Pratt Library and 2 dozen or so Value Village and Good Will stores, no record with a brilliant cover escaped torture at their hands. They were ruthless in pulling the most obscure details and nuances out of any record from Bacharach to Gainsbourg to Raymond Scott to Stockhausen, and transforming them into pure electronic tones and rhythm. The name came from the old Raymond Scott track, for which the boys owe much influnece, as Raymond and his machines, really set the pace for electronic dance music as we know it today. They most public track is the remix done for the the numbers compilation in the mid 90's, using an array of vocoders and speech synths collected over the previous 15 years, playing with syncopations that only Ralf and Florian could love... A one off ode to the Düsseldorf boys, done primarily to show them how speech could and should be used, since at that time, they seemed to have forgotten... However the most famous track is called "The Track" done somewhere in the late 80's. "The Track" was influenced by such a variety of sources including Henry Mancini, Burt Bacharach, Parliament, Miles Davis, and a few to many jazz records to remember. All tossed in to a purely 100% electronic salad, with multi time signatures, counter point, and other well tempered oddities, it sounds like what was quoted by one person as "the theme song to Love Boat 2000". If you can find it, sit back and take it for a ride. You won't be disappointed. http://pygmytaxicorp.com/
