About Positive Infinity

Perelandra: Let’s begin with an introduction. Who is Positive Infinity? Where did they begin and where are they now? Jon: That’s going to be difficult to sum up. But here goes: We started in 2005, and by “we” I mean “I” started Positive Infinity. Initially it was my solo project; just me mixing things together and seeing how they sounded. It mostly boiled down to poorly mixed/recorded rock, jazz, and electronic fusion tracks when I started. There were occasions where my brother Dave would help with music theory; other corrections; critique. Dave has made contributions in the studio throughout the years, but he has little patience for multiple takes at recording sessions, so he’s more of a live performance guy. I’ve always considered him a core member for these contributions – but it was mostly me doing the studio music from the start. Still, the Roberts brothers have always been the face of Positive Infinity. Along the way I picked up other artists that gave my music a much more jazzy and fusion sway. Brian Betancourt, a high school friend of mine, is most notable among those who influenced Positive Infinity toward jazz. Brian has been a great and regular contributor since ’05, and he is a phenomenal jazz musician. Harvey Summers of Broad Oak studios, in East Sussex UK, is also another big influence. Even though Harvey has only collaborated with me once (on our single Tetralunaria), I was highly influenced by his early work with, the now defunct company, Digital Vision. All the music of Digital Vision is, in fact, what inspired me to start Positive Infinity, especially Harvey’s music. So yes, “we” began as just me exploring new musical combinations. Now Positive Infinity could be considered an artist collective, where each release features various artists all mixing their musical voices as one.
