About Phil Baxter

Phil Baxter is an English singer and guitarist with a talent for writing sophisticated pop music that you don’t have to feel guilty about enjoying. With a unique blend of jazz harmony, soulful melodies and fat grooves that hook you and draw you in, you’ll find layer upon layer of taste to satisfy your appetite. Originally from Merseyside, he moved to London in the summer of 2008 and hit the live music scene making an immediate impact. One reviewer proclaimed - “You can’t believe something so colourful has come from England, but indeed it has!” Since then his highlights have included a sell out performance upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and a featured performance at the “December Sessions Live at the O2” festival. Having spent the earlier part of his musical career as a rock guitarist, he didn’t find his voice as a songwriter until his early twenties when he began to developed an ear for jazz and soul all of which were thrown into the pot when he penned his first song. What followed was a marriage of attitude and contemplation, exhibitionist and introvert to create a rich and expressive sound that moves your heart and feet with equal measure. With influences ranging from John Mayer and Alicia Keys, to Sting and Paul McCartney, his soul infused sound bridges the gap between Britain and America with equal reverence for the past and the present. With reference to what the future holds, Phil had this to say; “I’m not making music for the music industry, I make it for the people who listen to music because they understand that when you listen to good music it moves you. If I can write a song or an album that really means something to somebody then I’ll know I’ve made it.”
