Paul Serrano (Chicago, Illinois, USA, 1 January 1932 - 15 January 2015) was an American jazz trumpeter and sound engineer . Serrano grew up in Chicago and attended DuSable High School. There he had music lessons from Walter Dyett, also the teacher of Nat King Cole , Dorothy Donegan and Von Freeman. After completing high school, Serrano studied at the Chicago Musical College. After that he went in the military service with the US Army, where he played in an army band. After that he moved to New York City and became a member of Woody Herman and His Orchestra. He also toured with Dorothy Donegan before returning to Chicago and working in the jazz scene. In 1957 he made recordings with the Modern Jazz Trio with Richard Adams, Bob Cranshaw and Walter Perkins ( MJT + 3 , Argo). Furthermore he worked as a session musician on numerous recordings for the labels Chess, Brunswick and Mercury Records and with Lorez Alexandria and Fontella Bass. In 1960 Serrano released for Riverside Records his debut album Blues Holiday, with Bunky Green , Jodie Christian , Donald Garrett and Pete LaRoca participating. In this decade, he also participated on recordings of Eddie Higgins, Bill Henderson, James Moody, Mongo Santamaría, Red Holloway, Duke Ellington Orchestra, Billy Stewart, Sonny Cox, Ray Bryant and Odell Brown. In 1966 Serrano opened his own recording studio, PS Records, later MET Records. In the following years he worked for Delmark Records, with Ramsey Lewis, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger. Between 1957 and 1982 he was involved in 28 recording sessions.
