About Patrick Ourceau, Eamon O'Leary et al
PATRICK OURCEAU “Patrick Ourceau, a Frenchman now living in New York City, is among the most accomplished members of traditional Irish music’s Foreign Legion. A fiddler of rare talent and sophistication, his music has all the hallmarks of great Irish fiddling - beautiful tone, pulsing rhythmic lift, deft bow work and crisply executed ornamentation.” Don Meade -- Irish Voice “Patrick Ourceau is one of the finest fiddlers in the ranks of foreign-born musicians playing traditional Irish music.” Brendan Taaffee -- Fiddler Magazine Born in France, Patrick was introduced to traditional Irish music at a young age, he started playing the whistle and soon after moved on to the fiddle. An unfailing musician at sessions in Paris, Patrick learned from visiting musicians from Ireland, as well as from musicians in Ireland where he traveled to as much as he could in the 80’s. Since moving from France in 1989, Patrick has performed extensively across the U.S., Canada and Europe with various musicians and bands, including the Tulla Ceili Band on their last U.S. tour, but especially with concertina player Gearóid O’hAllmhuráin and accordion player Andrew Mac Namara. Patrick is the newest member of the trio Chulrua, led by legendary accordion player Paddy O’Brien and singer and guitar player Pat Egan. Patrick has also been in great demand as a teacher. He regularly teaches across North America and Ireland, both privately and at various festivals and summer schools. He has been part, since 1999, of the teaching staff at Irish Arts Week in East Durham, New York and at Celtic College in Goderich, Canada. He has also been teaching for the past several years at Augusta Irish Week in Elkins, West Virginia and at the Chris Langan Weekend in Toronto, Canada. Patrick has also taught at the St. Louis’s Tionol in St. Louis, Missouri; the Alaska Fiddle camp in Chugiak, Alaska; the Friday Harbor Irish Music Camp in San Juan Island, Washington; the Armagh Piper’s Club in Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland and at the Fleadh Nua in Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland. In 1999, Patrick and Gearóid O’hAllmhuráin released Tracin’, a critically acclaimed duet recording faithful to the style and repertoire of the older generation of traditional musicians in Clare and East Galway. In 2004, he released with Eamon O’Leary Live at Mona’s, a live recording celebrating one of New York City’s best Irish music session which Patrick and Eamon led together for over a decade. Patrick is also featured on flute player Cathal McConnell’s last solo album, Long Expectant Comes At Last, on the Compass Records label, and on accordion player John Whelan’s Celtic Roots, on the Narada Records label. Patrick also appeared with a host of local musicians on Music and Songs from East Clare - volume 1, an archival recording made as part of a Millennium Project to preserve and collect folklore in that part of Ireland. EAMON O'LEARY While growing up in Dublin, Eamon O'Leary developed an interest in Irish music through his friendship with Emer, Breda and John Mayock, a noted family of trraditional musicians from Co. Mayo. His first instrument was the guitar, which he started playing while in his teens. When he moved to New York City in 1991, he met guitarist John Doyle, fiddle player Patrick Ourceau and other New York based musicians, and has since become a fixture in the city's thriving Irish music scene.
