About Pasi Hyökki

Pasi Hyökki (b. 1970) graduated from the Sibelius Academy with a M.Mus. degree in choir conducting. He has studied further at masterclasses given by Eric Ericson and Anders Eby. Pasi Hyökki also conducts the EMO Ensemble and the Talla Vocal Ensemble, which he founded. He has also conducted the Academic Choral Society and the Cantabile Chamber Choir, and he has taught the history of choral music at the Sibelius Academy. He received the prize for best choir conductor at the Chorus Review of the Tampere Vocal Music Festival in 1997, at In...Canto sul Garda in Italy in 2001, and at the Harald Andersén Chamber Choir Competition in 2003. As a sopranista, Pasi Hyökki has studied with Claudine Ansermét, Christina Miatello and Gloria Banditelli in Urbino in Italy. He made his soprano début in Handel’s Messiah in autumn 2003 and gave his first solo recital at the Time of Music festival in Viitasaari in central Finland in summer 2004, premiering works written for his voice by Seppo Pohjola, Perttu Haapanen and Sampo Haapamäki.
