About Paco de Lucía, Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin

John McLaughlin, Paco de Lucía and Al Di Meola are all world-class guitarists. The trio first appeared together in 1981. To date, they have released three albums. Originally, Lucia, McLaughlin and Larry Coryell formed The Guitar Trio in 1979, and together toured Europe as well as released a video recorded at London's Royal Albert Hall entitled "Meeting of Spirits". Coryell was later to be replaced by Al Di Meola. This new trio released their first album in 1981, titled Friday Night in San Francisco. It was recorded at the Warfield Theatre on 5 December 1980, in San Francisco and according to Lucia, has sold six million copies worldwide. Their next album was recorded in 1982, titled Passion, Grace and Fire (released in 1983). Unlike their debut record, this album consisted solely of studio recordings. In 1996, the trio reunited to produce The Guitar Trio, 13 years after they had last worked together. This effort had three originals apiece from McLaughlin and Di Meola, two by de Lucia and a McLaughlin/Di Meola duet on Manhã de Carnaval.
