About PPz 30

source : www.ppz30.be PPz30 is an exceptional band, true to their eccentricity, fearless on stage as in the studio, using a typical blend of strong rhythms and the atmosphere of cartoons, catchy tunes, solid grooves and rap so fast and steady that it seems fired by a gun. 1992– The unlikely encounter of Indiana (USA) native Bruce Ellison, mime and actor, with three active members of the Belgian independent rock scene results in a crazy mix of influences and energy. New songs are put together with amazing speed, and before the year ends PPz30 (technical name of cement) hits the stage with their very own style: “Freaka-Rocka-Funky-Dirty” , a blend of Rock, Funk, Reggae, Raw Energy, topped by the madly contagious lyrics and presence of their frontman. The offices of Sing Mary Studio in Brussels immediately propose to produce the CD which would be released in early 1993. 1993 - The year announces a rich concert tour in Belgium, France, Switzerland and Italy, they also play as support act for Spin Doctors. The first CD of the group: “Whack!”, is on sale in most popular record shops. Within it's first two weeks of release, Whack! was being announced as a favorite of radio rock programs as well as rock-oriented revues. 1994 - Gigs and gigs, and gigs again. They represent Belgium at the Printemps de Bourges festival in France and the German PopKomm in Cologne. And the show goes on... A long distance french tour of 40 gigs in wich they share the stage with dEUS and I AM. 1995 - The band records its second CD “Sweet Smell of SuckSess” for new indie label 62 TV records. The single “JUMPIN' JEHOSAPHAT” is released in Belgium in June and directly reaches the play lists of both French and Dutch speaking radios. Outstanding concert appearances include: the main stage at the Dour Summer Festival, the Plaza Real in Barcelona, the Botanique cultural centre in Brussels, KRO ‘s Leidsekade Live dutch radio program,… 1996 – “Sweet smell of SuckSess” has been voted best belgian album of the year by Brussels radio program Rock A Gogo. At least 60 concerts have been played this year (France, Holland, Spain, Luxemburg, Belgium...), the band spreads a special ingredient through their show: Ultrafun. 1997 - The new CD “This Is Not A Bell” is released in May in Belgium, then in France, Holland and Great-Britain. More concerts follow and, due to ever-increasing popularity, TV and Radio appearences as well. 1999 - The band joins forces with André Gielen (Grim Skunk, Channel Zero, Lofofora, Ekova,...) and Carbon7 (Aka Moon, Lula Pena,...) in the Hautregard Studio to produce the next album, “Beautifuel”. The collaboration with André results in a gem of great intensity and craziness wrapped in a masterful sound production. 2002 – Definitely the year of change. FIO joins the band and replaces Gal at the bass. A new single “What goes around” is out, to celebrate Radio21’s 21st Birthday. 2003 – Daniel decides to quit, but the PPZ crew welcomes a famous Brussels night-fever DJ: Laurent G, who’s in charge of coming with new sounds for the so called “Duck my sick” forthcoming album. 2004 – “DUCK MY SICK” is out, and the band is back for more, rocking the stage again!!! 2005 – PPz 30 is touring (what a great gig with Fishbone), while using the time left to write some new material 2006 - « Ovni Tender » is the 6th CD of PPz 30 containing 11 strong songs. The original band has been changed and expanded: not only a DJ - who tinkers impossible but very fitting sounds - has joined the band, but also a real horn section, the so called « Mafia horn section », which injects a good portion of swing into the sound of the band. The band is ready for it as never before.
