About PLAY DEAD

There are multiple artists with the name Play Dead: 1. Play Dead was an English gothic rock band from Oxford that emerged from the fading punk scene in 1980. Though often associated with bands like UK Decay and Sex Gang Children, they did not consider themselves part of the gothic movement. The band released three studio albums on four different independent labels: Fresh Records, Jungle Records, Situation 2, and Clay Records. They later formed their own label, Tanz, to release their final album, "Company of Justice," in 1985. The original lineup included Rob Hickson (vocals), Pete Waddleton (bass), Mark "Wiff" Smith (drums), and Re Vox (guitar). In July 1981, Re Vox was replaced by Steve Green. In 1984, Rob Hickson and Pete Waddleton launched a side project called Mankinds Audio Development (M.A.D.), which released a single featuring the songs "Craving" and "Sunfeast." The band dissolved in 1986 after a brief stint under the name The Beastmaster Generals. 2. Play Dead is also an alias of German DJ and producer Martin Damm.
