Oren Lyons was a band from Silver Lake (Los Angeles), California formed in January 2012 by composer/instrumentalist Gueorgui Linev, guitarist/producer Peter Potyondy, and Kristianne Bautista. The band later added violinist Dannon Rampton, drummer Randy Wagner and bassist Ian Anderson. The band currently performs under the name Kan Wakan. The band defines their genesis as "an effort to fuse classical minimalism and experimental soul within a more accessible sonic environment." With the addition of new members, "a whole new palette of colors and textures to draw upon" was injected into the band's DNA. Resulting into "a cinematic and oddly danceable bricolage of soul, americana, textural post-rock, ambient psychedelia, and western romanticism. " The band began making waves in the local Los Angeles music scene. Their first single Forever Found was featured on July 23 by DJ Jason Bentley on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic. The track was subsequently made available for download on various websites and is to-date their most popular song. The band has opened for Other Lives (November 3rd, 2012) at the El Rey theater and has toured with Sea Wolf. On December 4th, 2012, the band changed its name to "Kan Wakan," due to a special request by chief Oren Lyons of the Turtle Clan. The new band name means "sundance" in Lakota language. This was confirmed by the band through their Facebook page on December 6th, 2012. Their final show as Oren Lyons was on December 3rd, their first performance as Kan Wakan will be on January 28th, 2013 at the El Rey theater, with Niki And The Dove. http://www.kanwakan.com http://www.orenlyonsmusic.com
