About Nyarlathotep, The Crawling Chaos

In early 1992, Derek C. F. Pegritz, an English-teacher-in-training and afficionado of bizarre electronic music, discovered something very peculiar in his backyard one morning...a Mi-Go transport cylinder containing a living human brain that identified itself as Howard Phillips Lovecraft, a popular horror/science-fiction writer on the earlier part of the 20th Century. Upon his death, Lovecraft's brain had been encasqued by the Mi-Go and taken to their local outpost on Pluto (or Yuggoth, as they called it), where he remained for the next forty years learning many secrets of the esoteric universe. Upon his return to earth after the Mi-Go were done with him, he and Pegritz began to craft music based on what Lovecraft had learned amongst the Mi-Go and what Pegritz had discovered by reading the Necronomicon and the Pnakotic Manuscripts. Utilizing some of the strange technological features of Lovecraft's brain cylinder, the duo, now calling themselves Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos, after the soul and messenger of the Other Gods with whom both HPL and Pegritz had occasion to deal with over the years, began creating music to capture the essence of the horrific underside of the cosmos...and put out their first album, Ia!, in 1999 on Optikon Rekords. After the Turn of the Milennium, Pegritz and HPL began seeking out other musicians of strange talent and insight to add to the Crawling Chaos. First to join was Jeremy Long, a classically-trained pianist and guitarist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and member of a number of eldritch societies such as the Elders of Zion and the Sons of Sam Horn. Shorthly thereafter, Alexx Reed, founder of the popular goth/ethereal/industrial/New Wave band ThouShaltNot (for whom Mr. Long is also guitarist) joined the fold, bringing with him his extensive knowledge of classical music and bizarre technological transformations in the name of Azathoth. Finally, Pegritz's longtime friend aRvin Clay, a sound synthesist and ambient-systems engineer of the highest caliber to be found amongst non-uploaded humans, joined the band and filled out the primary roster while the band currently works on further projects. Many others, including well-known dark-fantasy author Caitlin R. Kiernan, Machine Drum wizard and psychopharmaceutical researcher Corey Appleby, violinst Megan Irvine, and even the daemon-sultan Azathoth itself have contributed to the Crawling Chaos cause, and at present the band is at work at re-recording the first album, Ia!, as well as creating all new music for a variety of projects. http://www.myspace.com/nyarlathotep
