About Not Quite Tom

Like all true musicians, Tom began his love for music in the womb…. Knowing that any normal foetus spends time energetically bouncing about its watery haven, Tom’s mother worried he would be still born in response to his limited movement. Little did she know he was, in fact, motionless in a desperate bid to analyse the second hand sound waves, transmitted through the amniotic fluid, towards his tiny semi-formed ears. Following his birth,Tom became one of the lucky 7% of us that go on to play a musical instrument, developing a love for the guitar following a series of disappointing relationships with the violin, clarinet and piano… His musical development took a natural, meandering path until the summer of 2006 when, by chance, he was told to listen to some chap called Erol Alkan. Coupled with his arrival at University in Leeds, his new love for dance music, namely banging electro, fuelled his voracious appetite for musical satisfation. From then on it was like a kid with ADHD had taken on the monkey bars in a playground… Tom swung with confidence and speed from one role to another in the order of: listener, raver, assimilator and finally, in May 2008, Bedroom DJ… A summer of religious dedication to the cause has seen Tom sky rocket onto the Leeds club scene this year under the alias, Not Quite Tom, playing at nights such as Your Mum Loves Electro @ The HiFi Club and Instinct @ The Faversham, whilst also gaining residencies at FILTH sounds @ Wire and Don't Party @ The Elbow Rooms. Not to mention a few gamey house parties to boot! With much in store for the recent future it is with baited breath we keep in our sights Not Quite Tom, a guy who is rumoured to have claimed he “Just wanted to incite a good bit a shoulder bumpin’, knee bendin’, you know….” . Inspired by the likes of Boys Noize, Daft Punk, SebastiAn, Felix Cartal, Erol Alkan, Brodinski, Destroy Disco and Tiga, Not Quite Tom begins to turn his hands to the production element of dance music.
