About Niels Marthinsen
Danish composer of classical music. Extensive and varied output in many genres, eg. the full scale opera The Confessional, the symphonies Monster Symphony, Snapshot Symphony, and The Planets, several other works for symphony orchestra, four solo concertos and a batman-triple concerto for three trombones with orchestra: In the Shadow of the Bat , and five chamber operas: Love and Treason, Maestro, Hole-Through, The King of Utopiaville and Dr. Jekyll’s Attorney. Also a series of seven works for different chamber ensembles on Karen Blixen’s Seven Gothic Tales, a large set of variations for piano solo Maestro Variations and many, often virtuoso works for larger and smaller chamber ensembles. Niels Marthinsen is currently composing a series of four large scale works on astrophysics and evolutionary biology to RETHINK 2017 Aarhus European Capital of Culture: An opera about Charles Darwin with text by Bent Nørgaard to Aarhus Summer Opera, a kind of evolution-oratorio on the origin and development of the specieswith text by Pia Juul of Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, one choral symphony on how the universe began and how it will and end with text by Ursula Andkjær Olsen for the GAIA Choir and Aarhus Sinfonietta, and a kind of theatre concert about the solar system and life on other planets to Aarhus Jazz Orchestra. Anja C. Andersen, Niels Bohr Institute and Peter C. Kjærgaard, Aarhus University are professional consultants. In 2018 he premieres an opera about Anders Fogh Rasmussen and the Danish war effort in Afghanistan.
