About Neo-Ritmo

Neo-Ritmo are a 4 peice alt rock group from Bristol, UK. The band formed in the winter months of 2009 by founding members Jason Watts (Vocals and Guitar) and Miles Jelfs (Drums). The line up was completed early in 2010 with the addition of James Arbery (Guitar) and Steve Smith (Bass). After their formation, the band spent 12 months perfecting their sound before debuting their live show in December 2010. The result of this was overwhelming and the group immediately found themselves with requests to headline events across their hometown of Bristol. The band released their debut album 'Experience Precedes Essence' in the spring of 2011 to a sold out show at Bristol's historic Louisiana venue. Recorded over two, three-day sessions between 2010 and 2011, the album consists of 7 tracks with a total play time of over 34 minutes. Included on this album is fan favourite 'Meet Inside'. This track as well as other favourites such as 'A Fraction of Forever' and 'Condemned to be Free' still feature heavily in Neo-Ritmo live shows. Upon the release of the album, Venue Magazine described the band as "confidently forged, burnished with passion and very much ready for battle" and with Live Music Scene saying of the album: "you can hear the care taken with every note played and sung, which shows that valued essence can be gained once heart and soul is poured into the craft". Musical comparisons in the press included the likes of Pearl Jam, Muse, Iron Maiden and Biffy Clyro amongst others. The release of their debut album was followed by increased gigging across the UK, including performances alongside established and up and coming groups such as The Pineapple Thief, Sound Of Guns and Gunning For Tamar. In the spring of 2012, Neo-Ritmo parted ways with bassist Steve Smith. Shortly after the split, the group announced Lee Rugman as his permanent replacement, the announcement coming just days after his debut performance with the group. On the 16th June 2012, Neo-Ritmo performed alongside Fighting With Wire, announcing both on stage and online, the release date for their second album 'Winter In Blossom'. This same day, a promo video for the track 'The Commander' was also released online, making this the first track to be released from the new album. Little over a month later, a second track was released online, this time as a lyric only video for the album's title track 'Winter In Blossom'. Released on the 20th August 2012, the album received positive reviews, with Fear Of Fiction (now Bristol Live) stating that they "explore more musical corners in one track than most artists do in their entire album", whilst Live Music Scene wrote "Neo-Ritmo transcend other bands of this genre". Neo-Ritmo continued performing in support of the release, notably performing alongside Maybeshewill and Gallops on 8th November 2012 at Exchange, Bristol (just opened 2 months earlier). Neo-Ritmo played their last ever show, headlining The Louisiana, Bristol on Sat 2nd February 2013. Shortly after, on 24th February 2013, the band announced their immediate split.
