There are two artists with the name Namaqua 1) A UK three-piece Rock band from Worthing, West Sussex, found on Last.fm as Namaqua- 2) Another Namaqua who recorded Daylight. No more information is known. 1) Namaqua were formed in 1995 after Dave Wray enlisted drummer Jay Sturland to complete the fragmented line-up of Never. After a few months bass player Nigel Ball left Never and was replaced by Lee Marsden. Insisting on a name change to relaunch the new line up and change in musical direction, the band became Namaqua. The name is a shortened version of their renowned track Namaqualand, written about the desert of the Western Cape and based on the legend of the Nama maiden queen. In 1999 a 7 track live EP was released, simply called Namaqua Live. The track listing featured: Merry Go Round To Be Happy Pride Of Place Beyond The Starz Namaqualand Yesterday It Gets To You After touring in the UK and Europe and playing support slots at festivals with the likes of Turin Brakes, Ozric Tentacles and The Maccabes, the band were on hiatus until 2007 when they re-emerged to play The Albert in Brighton. This was filmed and used towards several videos over the next two years. In 2012 Namaqua released their first digital single "Dave" which charted in the UK and Australia. The song was written and recorded in under 6 hours with the video being a 45 minute live shoot on Worthing Ice Rink. The video is now available on YouTube. October 2012 sees Namaqua releasing the 12 track album, Rock And Roll, that has been recorded over a one year period.
