About Myself My Enemy

In today’s metal world, heaviness is the name of the game, and there are few bands that use this fact to their advantage as well as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Myself My Enemy. Complete with catchy riffs, gut wrenching death growls, and tight breakdown grooves, MME is the prototype for generations of heavy bands to come. Comparable to bands such as The Black Dahlia Murder, Veil of Maya, and First Blood, the band has amassed a huge following in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware scenes. Established in 2005 by drummer Andrew Gries, vocalist Mark Rivello, and guitarist John Viebahn, Myself My Enemy quickly began to build the foundations for what would later mature into one of the darkest sounds in the northeastern United States. Among the earliest bands in the tri-state area to embrace a deathcore sound, the band began to gain attention from local promoters and record labels, and was regularly put on shows with national acts. Recruiting the help of guitarist Derek Parker and bassist Conor Hesse, Myself My Enemy now had a complete lineup and a new vision for writing heavier, more European-influenced death metal, while still staying true to their roots in hardcore. While playing shows in the Pennsylvania area, MME caught the attention of Broken Hope Productions; an indie label based out of York, PA, and was signed to the label in the summer of 2007. Myself My Enemy has released two EPs under Broken Hope, “Myself My Enemy” in 2007 and “Anamneses” in 2008. MME’s musicianship and do-it-yourself approach is the reason for their success in such an oversaturated genre. Never willing to back down from making the heaviest and most tasteful music, Myself My Enemy manages to keep its musical integrity without compromise. With the addition of vocalist Shayne Schrode in 2009, Myself My Enemy is ready to break out of the tri-state area and onto the national stage.
