Moorea Seal
About Moorea Seal
Moorea Seal was born in Reno, Nevada in 1986. Her legal name at birth was Ashley, though she found this ill fitting through out her youth. She and her mother and father moved to Britain when she was 2. She grew up in a little British cottage at the end of a dirt road. Most of her time was spent wandering alone through the fields that surrounded her house, collecting ancient pottery from the ground. When she was 8, her family picked up and moved again to the pine tree scattered mountains of Nevada City, CA. it was then at age 9, she decided to change her name to Moorea. Ashley never suited her anyway. She always loved to sing, but was very very shy as a little girl. though she joined her Catholic school choir and still sang quietly in the back. it wasnt until high school that she sang out a little bit more. enough for a girl in her choir her freshman year to volunteer her for a solo... against her will. by the end of high school she was waking up an hour early every day to get to school at 6:30am to sing in Chamber choir, and 2 other choirs at school. She was in a quartet with 3 other girls, and started the singing group Penumbra outside of school with 12 friends. her sophomore year of high school, at age 15, she secretly started teaching herself guitar. at the same time, she started writing songs. she didn't share these songs with anyone until the very end of high school, for fear that no one would like them. her freshman year of college at the University of Redlands, in Southern California, was the first time she shared her music in front of a group of people. her time at Redlands did not last long though... she fell into a deep depression and the only thing that got her out of it was an epiphany found through writing the song "Thistles." she switched schools, and ended up at Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, Washington. From there she started singing her music a bit more freely. at the occasional coffee shop. at events around school, including opening for Rocky Votolato. Nowadays, she is in her 5th year as an illustration major at SPU. She sings for those who want to listen in whatever environment that may be.
