About Monochrome Depths

Monochrome Depths is another moniker of Tom McCone, from Wellington, New Zealand, focused on the 'real' side of ambient, using guitar, keyboard, vocals, influenced by minimalist and post-rock ideals, and laden with effects in post-production. (His other project, Plain Division, is focused around Electronic Ambient music, ie. IDM/Acid Jazz/Dark Ambient) The tracks are pretty much all instrumental, even those with vocals in them, and Monochrome Depths always tries to provide an 'oceanic' feel to the music, an affinity to the sea. Counting Control was the first album of this nature, released mid-2009, and is available for listening on last.fm. It is a semi-concept album, based upon post-apocalyptic feels, and is somewhat of a 'transition' album, from electronic music, to physical instrument-based music. A new album is currently in the works and should be out before the end of 2009.
