About Mono No Aware

There has been at least two bands named Mono No Aware: 1) Mono no Aware is a Japanese alternative/indie rock band from Tokyo. The band formed when Shuki Tamaki and Seijun Kato met Keiko Takeda and Yutaka Yanagisawa at university in 2013. Since then they have released 2 albums under P-VINES and SPACE SHOWER MUSIC and self-produced an EP in 2016. 2) An experimental post-punk project from Spencer Curtis of Montreal Quebec. Since 2020 the project expanded into a band and the name was changed to Sunforger. Mono no aware (物の哀れ, lit. "the pathos of things") is a Japanese term used to describe the awareness of the transience of things, and a gentle sadness at their passing. It is also referred to as the "ahness" of things/life/love. 3) Mono no Aware was born as a rhythmic noise project of Leif Künzel in 1995, accompanied by Stefan Böhm as a co-member for a short period and today working as a one man project of Leif Künzel only. During years Leif has also formed side-projects, such as Norm and Ms MoNo, both of them are active up to now. Whilst Mono no Aware has become one of the best known projects from German cult label Hands Productions, it is also considered one of the brightest rhythmic noise acts on the scene today, highly valued live-performer and fascinating noise-art composer.
