About Mokracy

Mokracy are singer/songwriter/guitarists Christopher Flaga and Paul Felice. Christopher and Paul first met as childhood neighbors, and have been friends for nearly 18 years. Their musical collaboration initially began around 2005 as Paul was launching his music career and discovered amazing talent and musical chemistry with Christopher. The two immediately spent a great deal of time learning to work together, write and record. Their first major performance (as Cherry Psycho) was the pre-show entertainment for Shakespeare in the Park to a crowd of over 300 people. This was preceded and followed by various small-venue performances and opening sets for a few local acts, as well as performances at Cheapside and locations for the Downtown Lexington Association. The twists of life put Cherry Psycho on permanent hiatus, but the duo reformed as Mokracy in early 2009 and immediately began playing popular local venues. Paul Felice is a full-time professional musician and veteran guitarist with over 20 years of playing experience. He has played with numerous bands over the years, including Terrapin Fiction, Mr. Nemo, Bad Train, Cherry Psycho and Down Jupiter. He has also played acoustic shows with Jeff Lyman and the late Shan Justice of Lexington's greatest 80's rock band, Long Duk Dong. Mokracy is the culmination of his long-time friendship and working relationship with band mate and best friend, Christopher Flaga. Paul is also the lead guitarist for two Lexington-based cover bands: Sharkey Farmer and Zed's Dead. In addition to this, Paul has a large guitar teaching business and is a certified instructor in the Skinny Devil Music Labs network. Christopher has experience in writing and recording music for the last 12 years. Some of his projects include, Shossso, Cherry Psycho, Abet, and guest appearances with other bands and shows over the years. His influences include a wide variety of bands and artists, such as; Stevie Ray Vaughn, Elliot Smith, Weezer, Dave Matthews, Bright Eyes, Bob Dylan, Howlin' Wolf, Incubus and more. Christopher has also met legendary lyricist Bob Dylan, as well as some other legends, Phil Lesh (Orginial bassist of Grateful Dead), Billy Payne (Original pianist from Little Feat), Synyster Gates, The Rev, Johnny Christ, M. Shadows, and Zachy Vengeance of Avenged Sevenfold, a band that has intrigued him for the past 5+ years. "I'm most interested in making music that appeals lyrically and musically, not necessarily "wow" you with flashy super fast guitar work (which I appreciate and will still come into play at times) but a type of music that is so moving, it's almost visual. Something that grabs you with different instruments and beats to put you in a world created by imagination and sound."
