About Lerner Moguilevsky Dúo
Born of Russian and Polish grandparents who immigrated to Argentina at the turn of the last century, Lerner and Moguilevsky have contributed to the recreation of klezmer style since 1996 without anthropological pretense. In fact, they have developed their own language based on improvisation, combining musical elements from Argentinian folk music, jazz, contemporary music, and tango. Talented multi-instrumentalists both, Lerner and Moguilevsky maintain a remarkable balance between evocation of tradition and innovation. The duo’s compelling approach has taken them around the globe, performing not only in settings devoted to klezmer, but in jazz, classical and world music circuits. In June 2015 they performed at Toronto’s Ashkenaz Festival and KulturfestNYC, New York’s first international festival of Yiddish arts and culture. In May 2014 they accompanied Pope Francis – a fellow Argentinian – on his visit to Israel and performed at the Museum of Modern Art in Tel Aviv. Lerner & Moguilevsky have also played in the Mozartsaal of the Wiener Konzerthaus in Austria, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, and in the Purcell Room and the Royal Hall in London.
