About Mischief & Mayhem
Mischief & Mayhem is the name of at least two artists: 1. A jazz/fusion combo that includes Jenny Scheinman (violin), Nels Cline (guitar), Todd Sickafoose (bass), and Jim Black (drums). Their debut CD releases in 2012. 2. About the second artist of this name: The term, 'mischief & mayhem', can be traced to a Bulgarian maneuver from the Thirty Years War used by mercenaries in their attacks on small burgs. Units would first enter inns and watering holes and then progress to starting a full-fledged riot that would eventually see the city erupt in unadulterated violence; the phrase came to prominence again in the 1990s as the marketing slogan used to promote David Fincher's smash hit Fight Club. In the late half of the first decade of the 21st century the phrase gestated in the minds of two virile and unconscionable young artists that emerged like a firestorm out of Queen West. Some may assume they arrived at their name from Fincher's movie, but both vehemently deny this, preferring to reference the formely deleted wikipedia entry discussing the Bulgarian tactic that can currently be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mischief_%26_mayhem The collaborative duo's rocky relationship sometimes hangs on and other times hinders their brotherhood. Early on the musical duo almost went their separate ways over the issue of which would be the 'mischief' and which would be the 'mayhem'; this debate, however, found quick resolution once an automated coin toss program determined statistically after two million random tosses that heads slightly favored Adam and therefore he should have first naming choice. Their music can be described as a fusion of the last five or six songs in their iTunes playlist reamed through the ultimate DJ software kit known as 'Torq'. This program is not to be confused with the levered pressure known as 'torque' that wrenches and other such mundane tools apply. Why a music program bears a moniker totally unrelated to music should not be indicative of its massive musical talent. Indeed 'Torq' is in negotiations for its own five album contract with EMI, because in its spare time it connects to its million other installs on a million other DJ iMacs across Internet and, much like those million monkeys on a million typewriters--at least its main backer EMI believes--it is expected to produce the next Hamlet, albeit in musical form. The pressing issue of which of those million noise ridden tracks is the certifiable musical version of Shakespeare's play has yet to be determined by the marketing geniuses at EMI.
