About Mindware
Rhythmic, violent and headstrong - are how one could best describe noise/ebm band Mindware. Mindware are: former DJ, A.J.F. Barian on vocals and Axel Kleintjes, the prolific mastermind behind such bands as Page 12, Megadump, Cyber Axis, The Amp & Cycloon as lead writer & programmer. The band was initially devised in Spring, 1999 in Germany. Until the Summer of 2001 Mindware was a 'secret' project which Alex only worked on sporadically in between other projects. Then in the Summer of 2001 he decided to post some of the early material on the internet to gauge interest. This lead to positive contact with the label Error315 Records who proposed the idea of issuing those songs on a split CD. Instead, that rapidly bloomed into the full length CD and debut album, Warm Places, which was released in July of 2002. That summer the band conducted a club tour of Germany and the Netherlands to promote the album. The label was pleasantly surprised by the degree that the album was unexpectedly embraced by the media and the public. The songs 'Dive Into Me' and 'mother' quickly worked their way into steady rotation on the dance floors of the major industrial cities. And then came 'on earth'. This song appeared in rough draft form shortly after recording concluded on Warm Places but prior to their first concerts on the tour. When the song was played on tour for the first time live before the public it was clear from crowd reactions that the song was something special. So after the conclusion of the Winter 2002 portion of the tour the label had the idea to release the song as a CD single. Once again, the the final project exceeded the initial plans and became the Maxi-Single on earth with exclusive mixes from haujobb, [:sitd:] and megadump. Following the release of the Maxi-Single the 2002/2003 club tour resumed, the conclusion of which was headlining at the industrial festival in Stuttgart. With the tour over Mindware took time out to gather themselves for their next activities and go back to the studio. Their plan was to release a second EP but this was rejected, not because of disinterest from the label, but due to the fact that their label was undergoing a transition. Error315 Records dissolved and was to reform as Sequenced Sonic Interferences/Dawn Entertainment and their U.S. distributor Soulfood was undergoing sale to Metropolis. In the meantime, they decided to spend the time instead working on a full length album. As the work progressed it became quickly clear their style would depart from their previous industrial noise sound and extend more into the EBM musical spectrum with straight beats and analogue sounds. Another important variation of their earlier style became the thorough use of the vocal abilities of A.J.F. Barian - so that now instrumental tracks clearly give way in favor of more vocal-tracks. In 2004 with the reorganization of their label resolved they spent an intense session at the Megaline studio in Bochum and emerged with their new full-length album shut it down, which included remixes from [:sitd:] and rotersand. The album was well received by fans and garnered many positive reviews from critics. Unfortunately, later in 2004 their label went out of business and Mindware has yet to resurface on a new label.
