About Mikołaj Sikała
Graduated from the Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk in the piano class of Dr. Kordian Góra and in the chamber music class of Dr. Elżbieta Pasierowska-Kołodziej and Bożena Szull-Talar, MA. He completed both his bachelor's and master's degrees with honors. In 2022, he received a Doctor of Arts degree (third degree studies in the piano class of Dr. Elżbieta Pasierowska). He is also a graduate of the piano class of the State Music School of the 1st and 2nd degree in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz, where he studied under Alicja Michowska, MA, and Małgorzata Stożyńska, MA. He has performed at home and abroad (Germany, Italy, Spain, Romania, Czech Republic) as a soloist and chamber musician, among others in a piano duet with Adam Piórkowski and in a duet with cellist Maciej Kułakowski. Winner of prizes and awards, including First Prize in the “piano duet for four hands” category and First Prize in the “duet for two pianos” category at the 1st Suzana Szörenyi International Duo Competition in Bucharest (2016), Second Prize in the 2nd Orbetello International Piano Competition (Italy, 2018), Third Prize in the 48th All-Polish Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in Gdańsk (2017), 3rd prize in the 6th International Piano Competition Euregio Piano Award in Geilenkirchen (2018), 2nd prize in the category “piano duet for four hands” and 2nd prize in the category “duet for two pianos” in the XXV International Piano Competition in Rome (2015), 1st prize in the “chamber ensemble” category at the 15th Juliusz Zarębski International Music Competition in Łomianki (2015), 3rd prize in the cat. “piano duet” in the 14th Juliusz Zarębski International Music Competition in Łomianki (2014), 1st prize and two special prizes in the 10th International Piano Competition in Goerlitz/Zgorzelec (2011), 2nd prize in the 1st Gdańsk Chamber Pianists Competition (2016), Special Prize for the best accompanist, music college student in the 10th Competition for Young Performers of 20th and 21st Century Music in Radziejowice (2014), and honorable mentions in the 2nd West Pomeranian Piano Competition in Szczecin and the 3rd National Szymanowski In memoriam Piano Competition in Warsaw (2011). In February 2017, he was the winner of the Yamaha Foundation Scholarship Competition in Łódź, Poland. He was also named the winner of the “Stage of the Young” of the 49th Polish Piano Festival, where he was also awarded two special prizes - the Jerzy Waldorff Prize and the Słupsk Socio-Cultural Society Prize (2015). In September 2018, he was a finalist in the 1st K. Szymanowski International Music Competition in Katowice, while in February 2019 he was a finalist in the 1st International Juries in Competition Piano Competition in Salzburg.
