About Mike Majkowski

Mike Majkowski, born 1983, is a double bassist from Sydney, Australia. He began his musical activities as a jazz bassist, and has since developed an active interest in music of an exploratory and experimental nature. Mike is a long time devotee of the improvised music community in Sydney, and has curated for the NowNow improvised music concert series. Mike has collaborated with a number of wonderful musicians, including: Jon Rose, Chris Abrahams, Jim Denley, Hollis Taylor, Clare Cooper, Clayton Thomas, James Waples, Dale Gorfinkel, Peter Farrar, Martin Ng, Robbie Avenaim, Amanda Stewart, Laura Altman, Han Bennink, Paul Lovens, Wilbert de Joode, Eric Boeren, Michael Moore, Toby Delius, Axel Doerner, Steve Heather, Michael Thieke, Cor Fuhler, and Mike Cooper. He has recently been focusing on solo playing and is currently exploring how the use of refined extended techniques develops the sound and style of the work; how these technical possibilities create dialogues between each other, and within one another.
