About Miguel Cabral

Miguel Cabral, born in 1972 in Lisbon, Portugal Cabral has been performing since the late eighties, where he began his public activity as self-taught drummer in several bands, sounding somewhat close to punk-rock. Since 1994, he has explored different approaches to sound and recording techniques, playing and recording several instruments and creating new ones. In the same year of 1994 he founded a project named Froek Zinn, where conventional instruments were used alongside with invented instruments, objects, electric gadgets and no-lyrics-vocals. Between 1998 and 2001, he played drums and percussion, respectively in the Big Band and the Orquestra de Metais of the Pedro Ruivo Foundation, while he was studying Percussion at Conservatório do Algarve, in Faro. Since 2001 he has been working in composition, narration and sound design mainly for advertising (radio, tv and multimedia). In 2003 he founds the record label Rudimentol, oriented to experimental music. In 2004 he took part in the G2 collective, directed by the saxophonist Joe Giardullo, and composed music for the play «Aqui e Agora», Teatro Trindade. Since 2006 he has been working with the dancer Yola Pinto, composing music for her projects «Violinos para a Mesa 6» and «Displaced». He has played with musicians such as Carlos Zíngaro, Nuno Rebelo, Pedro Alçada, Nuno Leão, Vitor Rua, Miguel Leiria Pereira, João Martins, Emídio Buchinho, Nuno Morão, Ernesto Rodrigues, Sei Miguel, Fala Miriam, Fred, João Peste, Pedro D´Orey, Manuel Mota, Ricardo Freitas, Etsuko Kimura, Stefano Zorzanello, Luis San Payo, Travassos, João Silva, Carlos Santos, Adriana Sá, Paulo Curado, Ulrich Mitzlaff, Flak, Pedro Tudela, Noid, João Ricardo, Filipe Leote, João Vaz, Luís Miguel Girão, Genoveva Faísca, João Bengala, Coty Cream, Boris Buggerov & The Flying Sponges from Mars and Emmanuel Ferrand. In the development of The Nevermet Ensemble project, he worked with Godfried Willem-Raes, Josh Ronsen, Emmanuel Ferrand, Giuseppe Mileti, Paco Balbuena and Remedios Ayala, Tetsuro Yoshimitsu, Alex Temple, ioioi, Giorgio Viva, Clinton Green, Lynn York and Zhou Pei. In installation art he has worked with Miguel Palma, Nuno Rebelo, António Caramelo, João Bonito and Luís Alegre.
