About Michael Devine

Michael Devine was born in 1952 in North Dublin, Ireland. His childhood memories were of his father singing, tap-dancing and playing the mouth organ. Music and dance were a big part of family life with fond memories of Christmas parties at home where friends and family gathered taking it in turn to sing and the floor would be cleared so his father could tap-dance. As Michael grew up, music continued to be a major influence in his life but mainly for fun and as he turned 16, he started to work his way through various jobs including time spent working in a butcher’s shop and as a tyre-fitter. As Michael edged into his twenties, music started to take up more of his time and he taught himself to play the 5 string banjo and began songwriting, with dreams of becoming a successful singer/songwriter. During this time, he met Mary who became his wife in 1977. Michael began performing Irish and Country music in local pubs his influences being The Eagles and Glen Campbell and he started performing Glen Campbell solo tribute gigs. In 1995, Michael had to have a major operation for a serious ear infection which eventually destroyed all hearing in his right ear changing the course of his life completely, retiring from work and giving up music. After 5 years, Michael decided to start playing music again and returned to his songwriting and the arduous task of submitting songs to publishers. In 2007, he was contacted by Leopard Music who liked what they were hearing, the simple catchy songs with Michael’s vocals delivering something different and unique. After choosing four songs, Chris Dawkins set to work on the music & production with Michael and together they worked on Michael’s debut EP, firmly backed by Leopard Music Publishing.
